Wes Womack
PhD
Wes received his B.E in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State University in 2001. He then took a position at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a support mechanical engineer. In 2005, he decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University under the direction of Dr. Christian Puttlitz. His doctoral research focused on developing a finite element model of the lower cervical spine with application to degenerative disc disease and disc replacement.
Wes Womack has been Director of Engineering at Epsilon in Jackson Hole, Wyoming since 2011, where he leads research and development, assigns development priorities and leads product testing and technical support. Epsilon is firm that, despite its small size, is one of the largest suppliers internationally of the class of sensor technology they produce. Epsilon’s products are used in the development and qualification of all kinds of materials such as structural steels, composites, plastics etc.
Prior to joining Epsilon, Wes worked for another technology company in Jackson Hole, Square One, which produces sophisticated robots. One of Wes’s favorite activities is mentoring within the First Robotics Competition. Through this program, high school students design and build complex robotic systems in a short timeframe. Wes has been a mentor for the past eight years. Last year, he won the First Robotics Woodie Flowers Finalist Award at the 2016 Utah Regional competition in Salt Lake City. The coveted ”Woodie” is awarded to one mentor at each regional competition ”to recognize mentors within the FIRST Robotics Competition who lead, inspire, and empower using excellent communication skills. Wes has also won the Emerging Professionals Award from The American Society for Testing and Materials where he is currently the Chair of the AC273 Task Group on Digital Image Correlation, which he writes, “is an emerging technology that is poised to transform our industry.”
